I too was in awe when I learned how driven she was to stand in the water for 6 hours without snacks or breaks of any kind! I'm guessing this speaks to the complacency one reaches after years of living in Alaska. I remember being fascinated with my uncle's backyard pool while they poured over random photos along the Parks Highway. The dream vacation coming from a lifelong Alaskan? Warm sand, surf, and sunshine are the biggest draw for me. "I can jump in the water and not die of hypothermia?!" This would be followed by a loud splash and water spray.

Growing up in such a young location (Alaska just celebrated it's 50th Anniversary) I yearn to become immersed in older spaces such as centuries old cathedrals and the remains of civilizations that shaped life as we know it today. If I had to pick just one vacation I'd head out during the sunny months when I can sail the Greek islands and explore the rich history that all of Europe, the Middle East, and Northern Africa have to offer.

Oh Quinn!!

This was so beautiful! I cried because it was so beautiful. Your love story being told, was an awakening to the colors of my own marriage. I hope you don't mind, but I took the liberty of forwarding the story to a few of my closest couple friends, so that they may enjoy it as much as I did and hopefully make the colors a little more vidid in their own marriages. I remember coming to yoga one night and you had the dress and suit out, and I remember it was a good feeling. All I ever get are good feelings from you and Mike. I enjoy you tremendously and you are definitely a positive role model for a woman I would like to be. You show me that there is still so much out there to do and women can have fulfillment in other things. I am at the point in my life where my kids are leaving and my LIFE was all about my family! Bless you and Mike! Sorry if I got off the subject of your story!

Quinn, Congratulations! This is truly lovely and I see why you won first place. I think it will make people all over not only not through out their wedding clothes, but probably
get them out and look at them. (Unless they belong to the 50% who burned them in the "bonfires of hell." ) You did a beautiful presentation of an important idea, without sentimentality.
Mike must be very proud. I think it works beautifully for a number of reasons. I really like the simple imagery of the two garments side by side and hope that when it is published you will
do some of your wonderful watercolors to illustrate it. Also the ordering of the three parts is perfect. the process of your awareness of the special relationship, and of course with color.
What color was the wine? So, pat yourself on the back and Mike too, as I guess he was your muse in a way, and enjoy the glow of success. And have another glass together.
Too bad you will not be there to be awarded your prize, but your daughter willbe a beautiful representative and then she can write a story about the event! (while you are gathering material in Europe in the springtime.)

Yes, it is important to choose a partner for love and passion. It is also important to recognize if/when a relationship becomes unhealthy, and adjust your course accordingly. Few of life's challenges are easy, but being in step with one's partner enriches the journey significantly.
